AK | Responsible Tenant | Official Song | Behind Story
Written by Ashok Kunreddy
Hello and welcome.
This is your host, AK.
Thank you for being here and taking a moment to listen.
Today I want to share something very personal — the story and thoughts behind my track “Responsible Tenant”
Before this song begins, I want to share where Responsible Tenant truly comes from.
Because this song wasn’t born from blame or guilt.
It was born from understanding.
From a realization that we are all temporary residents of this planet—tenants, borrowing space for a little while, and responsible for what we leave behind.
I’ve always believed that none of us truly own this planet. We’re all just tenants here—temporary residents, borrowing space for a little while before we pass it on to the next generation. That thought stayed with me for a long time, and it eventually became the seed for this song.
When I wrote Responsible Tenant, I wanted to capture the idea that while we may not hold the title deed to Earth, we do hold a responsibility: to take care of it as best we can. The opening line—“I was born without a title, no deed in my hand / Just a lease from the sky, on this borrowed land”—came directly from that perspective.
Every day, I see the cracks in the world around us—pollution, deforestation, climate change—but I also believe we can begin again, if we each choose responsibility over neglect. Simple choices matter: bringing a bag instead of using plastic, walking instead of driving when we can, showing gratitude for rivers, trees, and air. They may feel small, but they add up.
The chorus reflects that choice: “This Earth is my home, it’s not mine to own / But I’ll care for it like it’s flesh and bone.” That’s the heart of this song. To love and respect this planet, not because it’s ours to keep, but because it’s ours to care for.
The bridge widens the circle—it’s not about perfection, it’s about responsibility. If each of us does something, even something small, it creates a ripple. Together, those ripples can change the tide.
Responsible Tenant is my reminder—to myself and to anyone listening—that when our time is up, we should be able to hand the keys over to the next generation and say, “I left it better than I found it.”
So when you hear this song,
don’t hear it as a lecture.
Hear it as a reminder.
A call to awareness.
A chance to reflect on the ways we care for the world around us.
It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about being responsible.
Thank you for listening,
for holding this space,
and for choosing to leave the planet better than you found it.
After writing “Responsible Tenant,”
“I realized that we don’t own this Earth—we’re just temporary tenants, and our true responsibility is to leave it better than we found it.”
